Missed Placed, Distillery District, Toronto, 2008. Edition Size 10. Image Size 16 x 20. Framed Size 25 x 29.
Next Exhibition
Spring is here and it is time for Toronto Photography Festival, Contact 2008. This is my 6th consecutive year of participation in Contact. Again this year, I will be at the Gladstone Hotel.
My exhibition is titled 'Gentrification - The Sell-out of our Heritage?'
Whether you see an old building torn down and replaced with a new condo development or a parking lot or a new storefront, gentrification is dramatically changing Toronto's urban landscape. Are these changes positive or are we losing a part of our past or character.
The exhibition will look at different areas of the city (i.e., Distillery Historic District, Liberty Village and Queen Street West) and allow the viewer to look at these changes and to determine if the changes are good for the city or are we losing a connection with our past. Do we need to take a more activist role?
Matador Club, Toronto, 2004. Edition Size 10. Image Size 16x20. Framed Size 25x29.
A recent example, Toronto Parking Authority wanted to expropriate and demolish a historic night spot, the Matador Club at Dovercourt and College, and replace it with a surface parking lot. The Matador has had a long history as a venue for country and classic rock bands. It is a Toronto institution with its own unique character. Fortunately through a public outcry, it has been saved.

Spring One of a Kind Show was very successful
The Spring One of a Kind Show and Sale was very successful. In addition to selling work, I was included in a review by the Toronto Star. You can see the review at thestar.com.
"Loved, loved, loved Dale M. Reid's black-and-white photography. A photo of a deserted farmhouse in a flat landscape was so Dorothy's-house-before-the-tornado, but it was and a photo of a pair of ankle strap stilettos beside an exotic flower that followed me home. Its title, "Danger Cobra," sealed the deal."

Supporting Charities - Muse 08 Carnivale
In my last enewsletter, I mentioned how artists can play a role in improving our community. This past March was my second time participating in the New Leaders of Sunnybrook Foundation silent art auction with a donation of 'Spike & Peace'. It was an honour to receive their thank you letter last week:
"As host of Muse 08 Carnivale, our 9th annual silent art auction in support of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, New Leaders of Sunnybrook Foundation owes a great debt of gratitude to community-minded individuals like you for making it possible to leave an impact on healthcare excellence. Your invaluable contribution of your artwork has helped us to make an investment that will improve the quality of life we enjoy in Toronto."

Update on New Studio and Darkroom Facility
Construction on my new studio and darkroom facility is almost complete. I should be able to start moving-in in the next week or two. Stay tune for details on the opening.
