Fall is upon us and hopefully the weather will be much better than the summer. Fall can be a great time of the year, with colourful vistas and freshness in the air.
I often get the question of why I do not create images in colour. My images are always in black and white because I focus on shapes, forms, contrasts and textures. With black and white, the images are more expressive and present a more artist expression. This is very obvious with my floral studies. To the right, the picture was created in 2005. I found this location in Toronto's High Park. What attracted me to make this image were the colourful leaves as they stood out against the black limbs of the trees and the texture of the colourful carpet. In the darkroom, I used dodging and burning techniques to bring out the textures and contrasts. In fact, when you look at the image you see the colours through the textures and contrasts.

The next three weeks, I have a very busy exhibition schedule. Thanksgiving weekend, I am in Vineland for an outdoor exhibition followed by the Style at Home Show in Toronto.
